Finding my fit at Pakūranga College means embracing the opportunity to discover my path, as a Year 12 student. It’s about more than just academics, it’s about finding activities that ignite my passion and go beyond academics. The Vietnamese Cultural Group and Crochet Club have helped me build lifelong friendships and connections while developing new skills and nurturing my passion. The collaborative environment fosters empowerment through participation. The Fijian and Routuman Cultural Group has opened my eyes to the traditions of Fiji.

My advice to every new student would be to be brave and explore Pakūranga College, as it really promotes cultural diversity. Step outside your comfort zone and try new things because ‘finding your fit’ will make your time at Pakūranga College even more rewarding.

One challenge I faced was balancing my commitments to multiple clubs and academics, so scheduling, punctuality, and determination are essential. Teachers and families are key partners in helping you thrive. Their support is crucial to my achievements and yours, as our Principal emphasises, because every student matters. As a student who is new to the NZQA systems and curriculum, I found this message especially important.

“Hands-on learning at its best! Pakūranga College provides the space and resources to explore my interests and develop valuable skills, helping me find my fit.”

Michelle Gondo, Year 12
