13ESS students embarked on a journey to investigate the different volcanic rock formations around the area. After enduring the beaming heat and the tiresome uphill walk, we reached the top of Mount Wellington/Maungarei and examined the multiple volcanic cones present on the summit from previous volcanic eruptions thousands of years ago. Not only that; we also investigated the formations of different layers in the Panmure basin and Bucklands Beach to find evidence for the nature of the eruption and how it all occurred. Overall, it was a successful and informative trip with some great views!
