Last week 10X Science ventured out to Eastern Beach with Teresa Morrell from the Marine Science Centre at the University of Otago to survey the biodiversity of Eastern Beach. 10X was lucky enough to take part in the Marine Per Meter Square Project, collecting data on what creatures are living right next door to the amazing Hauraki Gulf.

This project started in the library with Teresa where we learnt about everything that goes on in the Hauraki Gulf. 10X then moved down Eastern Beach with Mrs Collier, Mrs Barrow, and Mrs De Roo and our 1 meter-squared quadrate. Using our quadrate we started the thorough and engaging process of identifying and counting native and invasive species. Once we had collected all the data we needed we headed back to school to process what we found.

We sent our data off with Teresa, which was our contribution to the Marine Per Meter Square Project. We would like to thank Teresa for taking the time to make us a part of this wonderful programme.
