As high school students, learning about our country’s culture is a vital part of not just our journey at Pakuranga College but being able to understand more about our beautiful land, Aotearoa. This is why our Fabric Technology class took a trip to the Auckland Botanic Gardens! Not only did we immerse ourselves within Mother Nature and explore the serene grounds of the gardens but we also discovered the wonders of harakeke (flax) and its use within Māori culture!
We learnt all sorts of things about the harakeke, such as what it can be used for, and we did a hands-on weaving workshop, attempting our own pieces with the harakeke. Overall, it was a lively day and a beautiful way to end the week!
