On June 19, Year 12 students had a great opportunity to explore a variety of career options at the Careers Expo hosted at the Howick Leisure Centre. This event provided a deep look into the wide range of careers available to students in Auckland, offering a wide range of job roles and educational pathways, ranging from universities, world work, defence force, and apprenticeships. With numerous exhibitors in attendance, the expo offered hands-on experiences that helped students understand the requirements for university entry and the specifics of different career fields.

Below are some experiences from students:

“It was a supportive environment where students connected face-to-face with universities, training providers, and employers, gaining valuable insights into their future career choices, which also helped me feel more prepared and confident about my future choices. This expo was a great experience for many Year 12 students, as it gave them the knowledge and confidence to plan their career paths.  I highly encourage future Year 12 students to attend the Careers Expo. It’s an opportunity to explore the various career paths, and interact with employers and universities, and benefit your decision-making for the future.”

 Lemah Atal – Year 12

“An hour well spent on figuring out my future plans.  I got to meet lots of people who opened my eyes to new pathways.”

Donna Watson – Year 12

“Before attending the career expo I was a clueless teenager lost in a world full of possibilities, however, due to the large scope of passionate people stemming from varying careers, I walked out as a slightly less clueless person, now grasping a general direction for my future.

Being a person that has always been indecisive with career options, I decided to approach people with the most contrasting careers. I had interesting conversations with technicians from the University of Auckland, filmmakers from MIT, as well as soldiers from the army, however, I was especially intrigued by Kate from QRC (Queenstown Resort College)  who had an unquenchable fire for the adventure tourism industry, which includes bungee jumping, abseiling, etc. Overall, this expo has enlightened me on the endless forms in which a career can take, inspiring me to pursue my passions.
