For centuries Matariki has been celebrated by tangata whenua to mark the start of te maramataka, the lunar calendar, as well as the Māori New Year. It is a time to gather with family and friends to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future.

We’ll be holding our own college celebration of Matariki at 6.00am on Friday 28 June. We will meet at Ōhuiarangi (Pigeon Mountain) to walk up the maunga together, watch Matariki rise, and enjoy a hot drink and soup together. Students and their whānau are welcome to join us.

If you want to know how you can celebrate Matariki as a whānau, see this special report.
