1st XI Boys’ Hockey

For Tournament Week, the 1st XI Boys’ Hockey team headed off to the capital to participate in the Founders Cup. The boys had an awesome week winning all their pool games and play-offs to make it to the top two. They left the best for last by beating Southland Boys’ High School in the finals. The game ended in a 2-2 draw and this meant a nerve-wracking penalty shootout! Thanks to an awesome effort from our goalkeeper, Darren Wee, who saved three goals, Pakuranga College came out on top with a 3-1 score!

At the tournament, the team scored 34 goals against six schools and only conceded eight goals. Julius Sailer was a prolific goal scorer with 18 goals.

The boys are coached by Luke Holmes and Clive Daniels; they are very fortunate to have these two talented sportsmen as coaches, role models and mentors. To the Year 13s (nine of them) who played their last hockey for Pakuranga College – thank so much for your contribution to this code, we wish you only the best. Well done, 1st XI Hockey Boys! We are so proud of you!

1st XV Rugby

The 1st XV Rugby team headed down to Papamoa for the annual Rugby by the Beach tournament to round out what has been a successful year for the squad. The fantastic sunny weather set the stage for some amazing running rugby from the team and some outstanding tries scored from all areas of the field.

The team won 28-12 against Manakura College, posted a convincing 48-10 win against the Papamoa Barbarians team, and had a narrow loss to Mahurangi College. The results sent the team to the semi-finals against Matamata College where the team came away with a narrow 7-3 win. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t get the result in the final, but all the boys played with pride and passion with many of them playing through injuries.

The success of the year was topped off with Johnny Veilofia, Jeremiah Koteka, Peyton Ridley, and Manchester Ofisa all being named in the team of the tournament. Ka pai team!
