Taekwondo

NZ Kukkiwon Cup
Pōhutukawa student, Aziz Tapelu, struck gold twice in taekwondo at the NZ Kukkiwon Cup! Competing for the South Peace club, Aziz made a powerful debut at his first national competition. He dominated both the Male Mixed Junior/Veteran Grade and the Male Mixed Junior & Cadet Grade, bringing home gold in each!

Aziz, a yellow belt, has only been in the sport for a year after being introduced to it by his older brother and assistant coach, Oswald Tapelu, who is also a Pakuranga College alum. Taekwondo talent clearly runs in the family, with Oswald representing New Zealand in 2016 at the Oceania Tournament in Fiji.

Massive congratulations, Aziz! We’re excited to see where this journey leads you next!
