Pak Claims 1st at AKSS!
On Sunday 16 June, Pakuranga sent two boys’ teams to the open division AKSS Senior Indoor Championships, with their sights firmly set on one goal, taking home the gold.
Pak 2 fought hard in a tough pool, pushing and finishing 3rd in pool play. They went on to the 9th to 12th bracket, finishing 10th overall out of 16 teams.
Our Premier squad topped their pool and went on to the quarter-final against friendly rivals Botany, where they found their rhythm and polished Botany off 17/5, and then Auckland Grammar B.
The boys made it to the final, where they came up against long-time rivals Auckland Grammar Premier. After a very tight game, Pakuranga College came away with the overtime win on universe point, making this the first time in 12 years that we have won the Auckland Indoor Championships. The team also took out the prestigious Spirit Award for their stellar sportsmanship. A fitting way to end their school ultimate frisbee experience for graduating players Connor Nankivell and Jamie Mead!
Basketball
Premier Boys’ Team On Hot Streak
In a thrilling match against Orewa College on Monday 10 June, our Premier Boys’ Basketball team dominated with an impressive 81-53 victory. Then again on Friday 14 June, they cinched a solid 85-77 win in another awesome game against Northcote College! Ka pai boys!
Junior Teams
Congratulations to the Junior Girls’ Basketball team, who beat Elim recently by an impressive 12 points, finishing 35-23! And to the Junior A Boys’ team who recently beat Saint Kentigern Jets, 52-42. They also won against Howick College by a huge margin, 75-27!
Hockey
1st XI Boys’ Team
Another victory for our 1st XI Boys’ Hockey team with a dominant 9-1 win against Ormiston Senior College last week!
Mixed 8-a-Side
Congratulations to our 8-a-side Hockey team who won 5-2 against St Cuthbert’s College recently. The team is coached by Year 13 student William Koo and managed by staff member Dr Sajjanan.
Cross Country
National Title Holder, Leah Marais!
Representing Pakuranga College at the NZSS Cross Country Championships, Year 9 student Leah Marais has claimed gold!
Securing the national title for Year 9, she ran the 3km course in an astounding 10.44 mins! We’re so proud of you Leah!
Football
1st XI Boys’ Team
The 1st XI Football Boys’ team is on an impressive winning streak! Last Friday, they emerged victorious with a 1-0 win against Green Bay College. Earlier, on June 7, they showcased their skills and determination by defeating Botany with a 2-1 victory. Keep it up, boys!
1st XI Girls’ Team
The 1st XI Girls’ Football team added another win to their season in a tense match against Rutherford College, claiming a 2-1 victory!
Netball
Senior B Team
In a solid match, the Senior B team beat ACG Parnell Senior A with a final score of 30-20!
Junior Teams
Congratulations to our junior netball teams who have had some big winning margins lately:
- Year 10 Gems beat Howick Yellow, 23-4.
- Year 10 Pearls beat Selwyn White, 35-1.
- Year 9 Sapphires beat St Mary’s Blue, 39-3.
