On Thursday 2 May, the Year 11 Geography classes went on a trip to Waihi to learn about mining. During the trip we were shown the Waihi open pit, what they use to extract minerals from rocks, places relevant to mining, and how mining is managed in the education centre. Then we were taken to the Gold Plant Processor where they talked about how the gold was made with the machine they had and how they treated the water with their great water technology.
They also showed us the conveyor belt used to take away waste rock. After this, they showed us where they took all the material and what they did with them. Overall the trip was very enjoyable and interesting and we got to learn a bit more about how everything is managed in real-life mines.
