Danganropa is a detective shooter game, developed by Spikechun Soft and released in 2010. The game follows Makoto Neagi, a regular student enrolled in the prestigious school of Hope’s Peak Academy. He looks up to the school, as the school is the best of the best only enrolling students with peak abilities in their field; these students are called ultimates. So what ultimate is our young boy Makoto? Every year the school does a lottery picking a random student and titling them the ultimate lucky student. This year, it’s Makoto Naegi.
At the beginning of the game, Makoto passes out while inside the school hall, waking up to a version of the school more demented than before. As he walks around he finds the other fourteen students; each student has been chosen by the school themselves. Eventually, we meet the main antagonist of all three games: Monokuma. Monokuma is a robotic bear with a twisted sense of self, and from that moment the twisted game begins.
At this phase, the player gets free time, where you are able to interact and hang out with characters learning more about them. Like the cold, selfish prodigy Byakuya Togami, or the joyful, and energetic Aoi Asahina, the cast of Danganronpa contains colorful characters who are so different from each other. It means it’s easy to tell the difference in personality and character design, along with a phenomenal art style that is just oozing with personality.
