Deputy Principal

Pakuranga College is a large (2,200+ students), coeducational, culturally diverse secondary school located in Pakuranga, East Auckland. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dedicated Senior Leadership Team, as a Deputy Principal. The leadership skills required in our new Deputy Principal will be based on strong relationship skills and a commitment to excellence. Science Teacher

Gateway Coordinator

Permanent Position, Term Time Only

Pakuranga College is seeking to employ a Gateway Coordinator to work in our Careers Department. This is a permanent position for 37.5 hours per week 8am to 4pm during secondary term time.

Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement and this position has been graded as Admin Grade 3 and the hourly rate will be based on experience.

The position will include tasks such as:

  • Delivery of the TEC programme
  • Support Gateway Students to achieve success through structured workplace learning
  • Locate and vet suitable work placements
  • Prepare learners for their placement, including obtaining equipment and clothing, organising transport
  • Monitor placements, supporting the student and employer
  • Arranging courses for selected students
  • Promoting the Gateway programme within the college and community
  • Assisting the Careers team as required
  • Careers event planning and marketing
  • Maintaining the CareerWise website
  • TEC reporting requirements are met
  • Administration work

Guidance Counsellor

Permanent, Full-Time Position

Pakuranga College is seeking to employ a registered Guidance Counsellor to work in our Guidance and Hauora Team. This is a permanent position for 40 hours per week, commencing Monday 28 April, 2025.

Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Individual Employment Agreement for school employees whose work does not fall within the coverage clause of a collective agreement. Remuneration will be based on experience.

As a member of our energetic, creative and caring team, you will play an integral role in promoting and supporting hauora throughout the wider school community and empowering our rangatahi to be the best they can.

The position will include tasks such as:

  • Counselling rangatahi from Year 9 to Year 13
  • Building relationships with rangatahi, whānau, staff, and the wider community
  • Identifying, developing and delivering appropriate hauora programmes
  • Working alongside our Youth Workers, Health Centre, Whānau Leaders, and Senior Leadership Team
  • Supporting rangatahi and whānau through the discipline process
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records
  • Engaging with appropriate supervision

The successful applicant will have:

  • Qualification in Counselling with registration from NZAC, DAPAANZ or similar
  • Experience in risk assessment and using a range of therapeutic models with rangatahi
  • Experience in working across multiple external agencies and local community groups
  • Some experience in restorative practices would be highly desirable
  • The ability to remain calm when working under pressure
  • Excellent administrative and communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • A can-do attitude

Kaiārahi Māori

Fixed Term Position, Term Time Only

Pakuranga College is seeking to employ a Kaiārahi Māori to join our Pastoral Care Faculty. This is a fixed term position until 5 December 2025 for 30 hours per week during Secondary term time.

Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement and this position has been graded as Grade BC and the hourly rate will be based on experience.

As a member of our energetic, creative and caring team, you will play an integral role in promoting and supporting hauora throughout the wider school community and empowering our rangatahi to be the best they can.

The position will include tasks such as:

  • Academic mentoring, building and maintaining relationships with students and whānau
  • Participating in and organising the Mana Māori Team initiatives
  • Promotion of opportunities and events within the college, including attending these events
  • Supporting co-curricular activities such as Kapa Haka
  • Growing the capacity of students participating in pōwhiri (karanga and whaikōrero)
  • Supporting students to celebrate, promote and embrace Māori culture and language
  • We use Kamar as our student management system

Property Assistant / Labourer

Full Time, Permanent Position

Pakuranga College is seeking to employ a Property Assistant / Labourer to join our Property Team. This is a permanent full-time position for 40 hours per week, 52 weeks of the year and reports to the Property Supervisor.

Conditions of employment are in accordance with the School Caretakers’, Cleaners’ and Canteen Staff Collective Agreement. Remuneration will be based on the experience of the successful applicant.

The position will include tasks such as:

  • Undertaking general repairs and maintenance
  • Upkeep of the campus to a high standard
  • Weed control – spraying and clearing
  • Landscaping, plant care and garden maintenance
  • Swimming pool monitoring
  • Graffiti removal
  • Rubbish management
  • Distribution of deliveries to departments
  • Furniture movement and venue set up and pack down
  • Minivan management
  • Emergency cleaning if required

The successful applicant will have:

  • Physical fitness (some lifting involved)
  • A passion for working outdoors
  • Hands on repairs and maintenance experience
  • Some knowledge of plant care and grounds maintenance
  • Some knowledge of grounds related chemical application
  • High attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines and under pressure
  • A professional manner with staff, students, contractors and our community
  • Flexibility to meet the demands of the colleges after hours activities
  • The ability to work both independently and as a team
  • Health and safety regulations understanding
  • Current full drivers licence
  • Pride in their work and be self-motivated
  • Good communication skills

Working at height will be required at times. Training will be provided for the swimming pool responsibilities, elevated platform use and chemical use.
